RAF Entry requirements toughen

leave a comment »

Looks like the difficulty level for applications will be going up a notch from the 1 January 2011. It is also apparent that Officer roles are opening far less frequently than they used to. The information available shows that entry requirements for Officers now stipulates achieving a minimum B grade in maths (for certain roles only) and in some cases passing AST in addition to the existing requirements. Everything else listed is the same as before.

Non-Commissioned Aircrew will now have to attain 5GCSEs A-C, including Maths and English, where Maths is a B grade. People with their eye on a role as a Weapon Systems Operator are down on their luck, as is anyone wanting to see a Nimrod flying about. Best wishes to those guys.

Fewer planes, fewer pilots too. Sorry guys.

What does this mean for me? Thankfully, things remain pretty much the same for the role I’m after. It means that I will have to find out what a ‘AST‘ is, and prepare myself to pass that in case it crops up. I will be unhappy with anything less than a B grade in maths, so things are actually pretty similar to before. That’s not to say it’s going to be easy though.
